5 Friday Favorites – Christmas Prep

I can’t believe it’s only a few days until Christmas – where did this year go?? It seems like just yesterday I was turning 30 and starting this blog and now it’s almost my one-year-blogiversary! 😉 This week I wanted to share a few things with you I’ve been enjoying/appreciating as I prep for the upcoming holiday week. It’s going to be a fabulous week – my husband and I are both on vacation from our day jobs for the next 10 days, we’re having five families over for a “Friendsmas” celebration, and my sister and nephew are coming to town for almost a week. This is definitely my favorite time of year! As I look forward to it, here are a few of my favorite things that make managing the busy upcoming week easier.

1. Online Shopping

So, traditionally, I’ve been a die-hard brick and mortar shopper. I’m going to chalk it up to the fact that I’m impatient and hate having to wait for something I’ve bought to be shipped to me. I mean, I’d much rather walk out of the store with my purchase in-hand! But, this holiday season has been busier than normal and I’ve learned there is a lot more available if you’re willing to shop online. Also, programs like Amazon PRIME make it a quick turnaround (2 days isn’t TOO bad…) so you can still get last-minute items online too! I may have ordered my son’s bike on there just this week… Talk about procrastination! Either way, I have shifted my shopping habits just slightly to include a bit of online purchases.

2. My Dishwasher

Last Saturday we had four families over for a Christmas brunch and gift exchange. No matter what the size of the party, I am and always will be, a big fan of setting the table and using real dishes for get-togethers at my house. Needless to say, this event resulted in LOTS of dishes. As my friends were packing up and getting ready to leave and I was starting to wash the dishes I thought back to when Chris and I lived in our first rental together. The house didn’t have a dishwasher, and even then I would set the table for 15 people with real dishes and then we would spend over 2 hours doing dishes after everyone left. I decided that dishwashers are one of the best time-saving inventions ever and I am so very thankful for ours!

3. Mercury Glass Candle Holders

As I mentioned in my holiday tablescape post last week, I get to set the table for the Christmas dinner at my dad’s house this year! There aren’t very many things I like more than setting a table… In planning out the place settings, I decided to make some beautiful mercury glass candle holders with name tags on them (based on this tutorial by Katie at Little House of Four) as my place markers. Fun, right? 🙂

4. Clorox Cleaning Wipes

I realize you might think cleaning wipes are a silly thing to claim as my favorite, but seriously, these things are great! They’re super convenient and I love that the leave a fresh scent behind. I use them for dusting, cleaning the bathroom, wiping up spills, etc. Give them a try, much better than a rag (that you have to wash!) and spray cleaner (that gets everywhere!)

5. HootSuite

Have you ever heard of HootSuite? Oh my goodness, this tool is SO AWESOME! It’s a scheduling platform for social media posts. As I’ve been growing the blog, one of my biggest struggles is with getting all my social media posts done in real time. This tool rocks because I can spend an hour a week scheduling out all of my posts for the week and they just post automatically. GENIUS. Check it out if you use social media platforms for your brand!

There you have it, my favorites from this week. I won’t be posting anything this weekend because I’ll be baking cookies, sitting by the fire with my cozy blanket and spending time with the ones I love most.

Merry Christmas, friends! Praying you feel blessed as you experience the joy of the season. 🙂
