Happy Friday! I hope you’ve had a good first week of the year! Our daycare was still on vacation this week, so I only ended up working two half-days at the credit union. It was really nice to have a week of relaxing (and maybe even a bit of laziness) after the busy holiday season! This week I’m sharing with you a few of the things I’ve been enjoying as we start off the new year.
As always, let me know if you have any questions!

1. Leather Earrings
My step-mom got me the most amazing earrings for Christmas! They’re these bronze leather earrings from Nickel & Suede. Not only are they super cute, but they’re also basically weightless. The fact that they’re made from leather makes them really light and easy on the ears. You’ve gotta get a pair! You won’t regret it. And they have tons of other awesome leather jewelry including bracelets. Go check them out.
2. Ember Ceramic Mug
Another thing I got for Christmas is an Ember Ceramic Mug – it’s a mug and saucer that keep your drink at whatever temperature you want and it’s controlled by your phone. This is the best invention ever. Literally, TIME named it one of the best inventions of 2017! And I TOTALLY AGREE!! I use it at work so my coffee doesn’t get cold while I’m in meetings or focused on a project. I can work for a few hours and come back to my nice, hot cup o’ jo. It’s amazing! I’d highly encourage you to get one if you’re like me and you only like your drinks when they’re hot.
3. Our New Chandelier
We’ve been going through the process of redoing our dining room over the last few months. This involved taking out a few bench seats, removing a built-in daybed and replacing it with a window seat, and lastly installing a new chandelier. I was really struggling with deciding what chandelier to get, mostly because we didn’t want to spend a ton of money on it right now. We ended up selling some chairs that no longer fit our style for $110, so that was my budget. Super low, if you’ve looked into the cost of light fixtures lately. But, I was lucky enough to find this one at Lowe’s for just $100! And, since we have a Lowe’s Credit Card (that we pay in full each time we buy something) we got 5% off! It’s perfect for our space. I was nervous it would be the wrong color (since it’s deemed “aged bronze” rather than “oil rubbed” or black) but it looks beautiful in there. I’m really excited to show you how our dining room is coming together in a post soon. 🙂
Last week we had a bunch of friends over for a Christmas party and one of the couples brought a game called Codenames. I’d never heard of it before, but it is super fun! It’s the perfect game for playing with a large group where not everyone can be fully present the entire time. We were able to manage the kiddos, grab food, etc. while we played and it didn’t slow down the game at all. Lucky for me, I won my own copy of it in our White Elephant exchange that day! We ended up playing a few rounds at my family Christmas a few days later too. I’d encourage you to grab a copy and play!
5. Stitch Fix
Ok, if you’re like me and you love to have cute clothes but have ZERO shopping skills, Stitch Fix is your solution! Basically, they set you up with a designer that sends you 5 clothing/accessory items to try. You can sign up for it on a monthly, quarterly, or even annually (I’ve done both monthly and quarterly) and each time they send you stuff you pay $20 up front and then get to keep or send back as many of them as you want! Not only that, if you keep all 5 items you get 20% off, which is basically one item for free!
I’ve found there are definitely a few things you should do to make this program successful, so here they are:
- Be honest about your sizes. The only way your clothes will fit is if you put in accurate sizes. You can update them as often as you like, so keep them up to date.
- Give your designer a link to your Pinterest account and Pin a bunch of outfits you like from the current season. I find when I do this I usually keep almost all the items from my fix!
- Put in detailed notes about what you’re hoping for in your next shipment. I’ve even been as specific as saying something like “I want shirts to wear with black skinny jeans and booties.”
I promise, if you do these three things, you’re going to love your new outfits they send you!
