There’s no reason to put away all of your decor from the Christmas season just because the holidays are over! Use this one idea to help you create a super easy switch from Christmas to winter decorations while still honoring and displaying both seasons beautifully in your home!

I’m a huge fan of making decoration changes for the seasons both quick and easy.

Even as someone that loves changing up my decor on a regular basis, the idea of taking down and replacing EVERY item in my home sounds a bit daunting – especially if it only stays that way for a month or so!

Thus, I’ve established and defined my go-to method for making the switch from Christmas to winter decorations and I have to share it with you because it is both extremely simple and quite quick!

I hope it helps you enjoy decorating for both seasons without crazy amounts of stress!

How to Switch from Christmas to Winter Decorations – The Easy Way

Now, for this method to work in your home, there are a few things you have to think about when decorating for Christmas.

  • Decorate simply – meaning put up decor that’s classy and makes a statement.
  • Use neutral elements (like wood, metal, or neutral colors) alongside your festive decor.

If you do these things when you decorate for Christmas, then transitioning to winter decorations is SO EASY. All you have to do is:

Swap out the red (or festive color of choice) and greenery for whites and greys!

To demonstrate to you how crazy easy this is, I’m going to take you on a tour of my living room and show you how I went from festive Christmas decor to simple, cozy winter decorations in just an hour’s time!

The Fireplace

Let’s start with the fireplace, since it’s (in my opinion) the prettiest spot in my living room. ๐Ÿ˜‰

First, take a look at my Christmas decor and note the red or greenery items – the red throw, the red glitter trees, and the garland.

To transition to winter decorations, I simply swapped out the red throw for a grey and white one, the red trees for some white faux fur ones, and the greenery garland for a white pom-pom garland.

Easy, peasy, right?! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Piano

Next up, let’s see how I changed up the wooden pallet box on my piano:

For Christmas I had it filled with greenery and red/gold bulb ornaments.

To transition it to winter decorations, I simply refilled the box with white winter stems, white candles and a clock!

See how the main decor, like the gold mirror, the lantern and the pallet box are staying the same, we’re just simply swapping out the small bits of decor around them?

And also how the decor items we’re swapping out are all the same TYPE of decor, just a different color?

The Sofa

The sofa was another easy swap:

All I did was change out the red pillow and red flannel blanket for grey pillows and a grey faux fur throw!

Overall, this process is really simple, but don’t be discouraged if it takes you some practice.

Again, the key making this transition easy is first decorating for Christmas in a way that’s simple and includes neutral elements!

Make sure you add a few cozy winter decorations to the space and increase the cozy-factor in the space too. You can check out my tips for that here.

I hope this helps you simplify the process of transitioning your home from Christmas to winter decor!

I know thinking about the decor switch from this angle has helped me to minimize the decor we keep in storage and complete the change in a super short amount of time!
