Room makeovers like our new modern rustic bathroom are my favorite kind of design project! I love the process of taking a space that’s old and outdated and transforming it into a beautiful and functional space. If you appreciate makeovers as much as I do and like watching a designer envision what a space could be and pulling together all the pieces to make it happen – then you’re going to love this post as I talk you through our modern rustic bathroom makeover project!
We finished this room makeover last July, so a reveal is way overdue, but since I’m just beginning this blogging adventure I thought I’d start with this! I simply LOVE how this modern rustic bathroom turned out. Honestly, if it wasn’t weird to spend long hours in a bathroom I’d probably be in here all the time… 😉
Key Elements of a Rustic Modern Bathroom:
- Natural Wood
- Distressed Paint
- White Linens
Our Modern Rustic Bathroom Makeover
Let’s start with some “before” pictures so we can really appreciate the transformation.
Do you see that shell-shaped sink?…
We pretty much gutted this bathroom (minus the shower and built-in shelving cabinet shown above) and started from scratch.
Below is a picture after the vanity, toilet and flooring have all been demo’d and new sub-floor installed.
And now the bathroom looks like this:
This photo is even featured on Shutterfly with other unique bathrooms!
I updated the existing cabinet doors with trim, paint, and freshly spray-painted hardware.
This grey stool was an estate sale find for $5 and all I did was spray paint it the same color as the mirror!
This custom vanity is one of my favorite things in the room.
I got it from a garage-sale facebook site, gave it a little makeover (sanded and stained the top, spray painted the hardware, and added taller feet to make it the right height) and it is just PERFECT for this space. Chris also modified the “insides” to allow for the plumbing fixtures. 🙂
I chose to paint and reuse the existing mirror to save on cost and I actually really like it!
This space was especially fun for me to design because it was our first ever bathroom makeover! I got to search for (and create) the perfect vanity, select a new light fixture and toilet, and design/build the floating shelves above the toilet. A lot of this project was DIY (would you like any tutorials?!) and am extremely pleased with the results. What do you think? Like how it turned out? Please let me know if you have any questions or I’ve missed a source!
