Happy Thursday, friends! It’s One Room Challenge time – and that means, I’m going to have a beautiful new master farmhouse bathroom in just a few short weeks!!!
If you haven’t heard of of the One Room Challenge before, it’s a semi-annual event put on by Calling it Home and House Beautiful where interior design bloggers come together and each makeover a room in six weeks. Throughout the six weeks, every Thursday we will post an update about the progress of the makeover and in the end we all reveal our beautiful new rooms! I’m participating as a guest participant this season, along with some other amazing bloggers.
Chris and I have decided to makeover the last room in our house that hasn’t been touched in the year and a half we’ve been here – our master bathroom!
Here is what the bathroom looks like currently:
It’s a rather large bathroom, with the deep soaker-tub and separate shower. We’ve done absolutely nothing to update this room since we bought the home last year. As you can see, it still has pink flowers on the tile around the tub, the light fixture above the tub and every cabinet knob. Did I mention before how much the previous owner loved pink flowers?? So much so, that every flowering bush on the property is pink too. 😉
So, what’s the plan, you ask??
Let’s just say I’ve had a year and a half to dream about this room, and I can’t wait for it to come to life! 🙂
I really want this bathroom to continue the modern farmhouse vibe we’ve created in the master bedroom. I love the bedroom’s color scheme – mostly white, cream, and linen with pieces of black, gold and green sprinkled throughout. We plan to leave the layout of the bathroom mostly the same, with the minor adjustment being moving back the “privacy wall” and putting in a furniture style vanity rather than a cabinet. We have a green/gold buffet we got for $50 at an estate sale years ago that has been sitting in the garage since we moved – it’s going to look FABULOUS as a bathroom vanity! I’ve also already purchased the vessel sink and aged bronze faucet shown in my mood board below. Oh, and the mirror! We got this huge wood-framed mirror at a garage sale for just $1!! I’m going to paint it black before it goes up. I’ve also got some awesome vintage items to hang on the wall – a hand painted clock face and an old board with “Portland” impressed on it. I plan on using our same black wicker hamper and possibly our gold metal table too.
Here are a few of my inspiration pics:
And here is my mood board:
As far as the work going into making this happen, there’s quite a bit to it… To start, we plan to remove the “privacy wall” from the middle of the room back to the shower door, as well as all the existing cabinetry. Then, we plan to paint the tile around the tub white, the floor tiles in a black and white faux cement tile pattern, and the shower door frame black. Next we’ll install a beautiful new vanity, cover the walls in faux shiplap (like we did in the guest bath), paint the shiplap white, install new lighting and hardware, install built-in wood shelves and a new toilet, and decorate!
Not too much for 6 weeks, right?! It’s going to be a lot of late nights and long weekends! But, I am SO EXCITED.
I really hope you all will choose to follow along as we post our progress every Thursday leading up to the big reveal on November 9th! It’s going to be a whirlwind project with some amazing results. 🙂
