Come tour our fancied-up picnic table set for a lovely dinner outside! I’m showing you how easy it is to have an impromptu al fresco dinner party with simple outdoor table decor!
I LOVE having dinner outside in the summer time – it’s so cozy and relaxing!
We typically eat our outdoor dinners at the glass-top metal dining table on our deck, but last week I decided to set our picnic table (which we built ourselves, YEARS ago…) for a fun, fancy dinner!
I hope this table (and how easy it was to set!) inspires you to invite over some of your peeps for a nice dinner al fresco this summer. Even if all you have is an old, worn picnic table to eat it on! π

Fancy Outdoor Table Ideas for Setting a Dinner Al Fresco
Welcome to our “fancier-than-normal” outdoor dinner table! π
I started with a long, white, sheer runner (which is actually just our old bedroom curtains laid on the table!) and faux fur rugs on the benches.
Next, I set each of the places with a woven charger, white plate, grey cloth napkin, water glass and gold silverware.
Then I added some basic decor – eucalyptus stems and battery-operated candles (all thrifted from Goodwill for under $15 total!) along the runner and gold floral picks atop the napkins.
I love the way the candles light up in the dusk hours! And using battery-operated makes them both safe and long-lasting.

The gold picks are from my Christmas decor (we usually put them in our tree) but I like that they add just a pop of elegance to the place settings.
The faux fur rugs make the rough wood bench much more comfortable.
I’m still IN LOVE with this set of gold flatware I got last fall!
For an extra bit of “fancy,” use a runner that touches the ground ever so slightly on each end of the table. Like I said, I used sheer curtains!
I love eucalyptus, but you really could use any type of greenery – including fresh cut greenery stems from your yard! Hmm… maybe I’ll clip some boxwood for the centerpiece next time!
So, what do you think of my “fancied-up” picnic table? Want to come over for dinner al fresco? π

I absolutely love this post. I am looking to set up a nice birthday picnic table and this post has given me great ideas and not feel overwhelmed. Thank you thank you for sharing.
I got the woven mats at IKEA! I’ve seen similar ones made out of rope that’s wound and glued together too!
I love the out door table scape. Where can I get the woven place mats or instructions on how to make.
