Statement light fixtures are a fantastic way to add style, create cohesion and accentuate the architecture of your home. Discover why you need statement fixtures and how to select the best one for your space!

This post is sponsored by Varaluz. The opinions are 100% my own.

Light fixtures are one of the key elements in a room’s design. Not only are they functionally necessary, but they offer an opportunity to add unique style. I’m always amazed at how much both the feel and function change in a space with the installation of a new fixture and statement light fixtures are one of my favorite ways to make a quick and easy update in my home.

During the process of designing our she-shed home office, I knew I wanted to install a few statement light fixtures to glam up the space. We went with the Charmed collection from Varaluz, and let me tell you, I’ve not regretted that decision for one second.

Having a large chandelier in the vaulted section of the she-shed was one of the best decisions we made for that office’s design. Why, you ask? Because it makes a statement.

I mean, look at this beauty…

Stunning, right?

Statement light fixtures are lights that give a bold or intentional style to a room. They’re typically big or elaborate and are intended to stand out. They don’t have to be wild or super ornate, in fact, some of my favorite ones are traditional and simplistic in design, they just have to have an unavoidable presence in the room. If your room’s design feels a bit unfinished, chances are it’s your lighting that’s to blame.

We have statement light fixtures in our master bathroom, master bedroom, dining room, and even our guest bathroom. Seriously, that’s how much I love them!

I believe everyone should have at least one statement light fixture in their home, and for today’s post, I’m going to share with you 3 reasons I think YOU need to install a statement light fixture (or two!) in your home. Trust me, you’re gonna love it! 😉

What makes fixtures “statement light fixtures”?

  • Bold or Elaborate
  • Intentional or Unavoidable
  • One-of-a-Kind or Unique

3 REASONS TO INSTALL
STATEMENT LIGHT FIXTURES
IN YOUR HOME

1. Add a specific style

Adding statement lighting to your home is almost guaranteed to enhance the style of your home. With the large range of fixtures available, you’re bound to find one that is both unique and tailored to your style preferences. I’d encourage you to try swapping out a builder-grade ceiling light for a modern flush-mount fixture or an out-dated brass chandelier for a new black one with shades. You’d be amazed at how a simple light swap will completely change the feel of your space.

In our she-shed, I knew I was going to need lighting under the loft by my desk. While we did install two recessed lights directly above the desk, I knew I wanted something with a bit of glam to style up the space. That’s why we chose to install these sconces on either side of the window. Not only did it give me more light and increased functionality, but it also kept me from having to choose art or other items to hang on that wall!

2. Create Room Element Cohesion

One of the best ways to create cohesion between a room’s elements is by installing statement lighting that encompasses a bit of each element. A statement light fixture can draw together colors, metals, lines, or even textures. If you’re looking for a way to tie two (or more) parts of your room together, try installing a statement light that accentuates or includes them!

For example, in our she-shed, I had gold on the desk, silver on the door knobs, and a round medallion above the grey and white linear tile. Using my statement light fixtures, I was able to tie all of those elements together! The chandelier is made with both both silver and gold metal and has both round and linear charms.

3. HIGHLIGHT HOME’S ARCHITECTURE

Another big reason to install statement light fixtures in your home is to accentuate or highlight your home’s architecture. Lights have a unique way of showing off architectural elements like vaulted ceilings, beams, shiplap, windows, even built-ins like a window seat or kitchen island.

Try installing a chandelier in a vaulted entryway, pendant lights over a large kitchen island, or an industrial ceiling light between two large beams. Chances are, that tall ceiling, large entertaining space, and beamed ceiling will all be enhanced by the presence of a statement light fixture.

One thing I love about our Charmed chandelier is that it fills a large vaulted space that would otherwise seem useless and awkward. Rather than a big loss of space, it’s instead a place to display a statement light fixture – almost like a floating piece of art. 🙂
