Backyard Patio One Room Challenge Week 7 – Final Peeks

I can’t believe we’re already to the last week of updates before our final room reveal!

This backyard patio makeover has been SO FUN – and we’re already using the space, even with it only part-way done. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s definitely going to be a highly utilized space this summer!

If you’re new to our Spring 2020 One Room Challenge adventure, we’re transforming an ugly, unused corner of our backyard into a relaxing oasis.

You can catch up on all the details here:

Just for fun, let’s take another look at where we started this project:

And a quick glance at my design for the space:

Based on our mini-project list, we’re getting really close:

  • Install privacy panels in the chain-link fence
  • Remove 3โ€ณ of dirt to make room for the gravel and new landscaping
  • Install walkway and patio borders
  • Move and adjust irrigation lines
  • Install and compact the gravel
  • Plant new shrubs and flowers in surrounding bark beds
  • Install rock water feature
  • Install fresh, new bark nuggets
  • Spray paint old patio furniture and purchase new cushions
  • Purchase fire pit table, hammock, rug and decor
  • Set up furniture and decor!

We’re well on our way to having this project completed and our focus over the next few days is going to be finishing up the bark and setting up the furniture/decor.

We’ve had a lot of rainy days over the last week so I’ve been waiting for nice weather to spray paint our metal furniture.

It’s all washed and prepped for paint and the sun is back, so I plan to paint them today or tomorrow.

I was hoping to have our pillow cases here in time to show you how to paint them, but they just arrived yesterday so I’ll have to share that DIY tutorial with you after the reveal.

They’re a lovely beige canvas material and I plan to add some black and/or green stripes to a few.

Ignore the grey pillows behind them – those are for the deck, not the patio.

We’ve also got 7 yards of bark sitting in our front driveway…

So that’s the bulk of the work this week! But it’s worth the work because it looks SO good!

We did have a small change in plans as we were finishing up the plants – we decided NOT to move the red tree from the other area of our yard because we were worried it would get choked out by the other bushes around it.

Instead we planted a lovely pink hydrangea and a red camellia that will get 6-8′ tall and have red blooms in the fall!

Here’s a sneak peek:

You can also see in this picture that we got our solar lights installed.

I’m in love with them!!

We did 12 of them throughout the border of the path and patio and 2 spot-lights on the water fountain so we can see it at night when we’re sitting by the fire.

Chris snapped this shot – I know it’s dark and I’ll get a better one – but it gives you the basic idea. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ah! It’s such a romantic spot!

Chris and I actually sat by the fire last night for about an hour just dreaming together about future endeavors.

It’s my favorite.

Ok – that’s all I’ve got for you today!

Be sure to come back next week for the big reveal!!
